Buried in Snow, Buried in Apathy? Why We Can’t Let Winter Freeze Us Out of This Election

Ontario is buried—literally. In the past week, some parts of the province have seen over 60 cm of snow, leaving major cities like Toronto struggling to dig out. Sidewalks are buried, transit is unreliable, and getting anywhere feels like an uphill battle.

Unfortunately, voter turnout is often just as buried under layers of apathy and frustration. But with just 9 days until Election Day and advance polls opening in a couple of days, we can’t afford to let these storms keep us stuck.

Winter Voting Fatigue Is Real—But We Can’t Give In

When the weather is rough, it’s tempting to put off anything that isn’t absolutely necessary. But elections don’t pause for snow and the decisions made in this one will affect us long after the last pile of slush has melted.

The reality? Low voter turnout benefits those already in power.  Just like failing to shovel your sidewalk can lead to dangerous conditions for others, failing to vote leaves the path wide open for decisions that don’t reflect our communities' needs.

Digging Out and Getting to the Polls

🛑 Clear the Path – Just like we’re all waiting for plows to come through, we need to clear our own way to the ballot box. Make a plan now—check where your advance polling station is located.

🤝 Help Your Neighbours – Know someone who might struggle to get to the polls? Offer a ride, check in on friends and family, and make sure they know their voting options.

❄️ Don’t Let This Election Get Buried – If you don’t vote, the decisions will still be made—just without your say. Let’s not let this election disappear under the snow.

The Time to Act Is Now

The snow may be deep, but so is our responsibility to shape Ontario’s future.

Will you dig in and make your vote count?
